One of the most interesting and prettiest fish in my opinion. Too bad they are so nasty otherwise! Excellent.

That's true, although to be fair they're not agressive, it's just that they have venomous spines as part of their defense mechanism. Thank you, and lovely to see this in your favourites:)

Artist's Description

A common lionfish resting on the sandy bottom under a ledge in Watamu Marine Park, Kenya.

This fish has highly venomous spines on its fins as defense mechanism. Nonetheless, moray eels, cornetfish and some sharks are known to prey on them, immune to the venom. It's a nocturnal animal, hiding in crevices during the day and hunting out in night.

In the Carribean they are an invasive species in the absence of natural population control mechanisms such as predation and parasitism.
