A common lionfish resting on the sandy bottom under a ledge in Watamu Marine Park, Kenya.
This fish has highly venomous spines on its fins as defense mechanism. Nonetheless, moray eels, cornetfish and some sharks are known to prey on them, immune to the venom. It's a nocturnal animal, hiding in crevices during the day and hunting out in night.
In the Carribean they are an invasive species in the absence of natural population control mechanisms such as predation and parasitism.
I am a Kenyan photographer with a bias towards wildlife and nature photography who considers it a privilege to capture these moments in the wild, and a joy to share them with you. I am forever grateful for each like and comment and humbled by every follow, as it motivates me to take more photos. It's always heartwarming when I find out that a photo made it to your favourites too!
