Artist's Description
A close-up portrait of african cape buffalo showing its horns in the wild Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya.
The african cape buffalo is often seen as one of the least glamarous of the big five on safari. I chose this portrait composition to show the `other half' of this magnificent beast by drawing attention to the beautiful curves of its grand horn, it facial expressions and eyes.

Awesome composition and capture!
Nirav Shah replied:
Thank you, Rachel! I love that you like the composition too. Its a challenge to depict these beasts in a flattering way, but I reckon this composition moves in that direction by drawing attention to the horn, the eyes, facial expression, etc. depicting the softer half of this generally temperamental animal. Wonderful to know it made it to your favourites :)

Kathy Kelly
Outstanding close-up Nirav of this magnificent (and dangerous) animal. L/F/F
Nirav Shah replied:
Thank you so much Kelly! I love the expressiveness in its eyes, and of course, its beautiful horn. African Cape Buffalos definitely demand respect and particularly when calves are around or in the prescence of a lone bull. Otherwise, they are mostly peaceful grazers and as long as you keep your distance you have little to worry about. Cheers for the like and follow!
