Artist's Description
We were so lucky to witness the entire saga of a chase with this cheetah! From the initial stalking, to the actual hunt during which it ran at break neck speed, to catching its prey (a baby Thompson gazelle) and eating it before the hyenas get word - we got to see it all!
Cheetahs hunt during the day, and if the female has cubs, she can hunt daily or even multiple times in a day to feed them. They are incredible hunters, with lightening speed and agility. A coalition can take down bigger prey like topi, but otherwise, they stick to smaller prey.
This young gazelle had no chance and the cheetah carries it firmly in its jaws as it looks for a safe spot to eat its meal.
