Description
We came across this majestic male lion resting under the shade of a tree during a hot afternoon game drive in the Eastern Serengeti and I took this close-up portrait. I like the way that the light and shadows dance on his face and luscious mane, and fortunately, he was sitting up looking directly at the camera. The little dribble of saliva from his mouth, I feel complements the savagery of this impressive hunter. I felt that rendering this in monochrome emphasised the interplay between light and shadow better as well as making for a more emotional portrait.
